This is a healthy option for breakfast; it can be prepared easily and quickly. Uttapam is a South Indian dish, which is very much liked as a breakfast or evening snack. It is also made like dosa, but its thickness and toppings make it different and special from dosa. Onion Uttapam is a tasty variant of it, in which chopped onion and some spices are added to make it crispy and tasty. Let’s know how you can easily make onion uttapam at home.

Ingredients:

  1. 1 cup rice
  2. ½ cup urad dal
  3. ¼ cup poha
  4. ½ tsp fenugreek seeds
  5. Salt to taste
  6. Water (as required)
  7. 2 medium-sized onions (finely chopped)
  8. 2 green chilies (finely chopped)
  9. 1 tsp cumin seeds
  10. Some curry leaves
  11. Coriander leaves (finely chopped)
  12. Oil or ghee (for greasing)

How to make onion uttapam: Method

  1. First of all, soak rice and urad dal separately for 4-5 hours.
  2. After this, soak the fenugreek seeds along with the urad dal.
  3. Soak poha separately for 15-20 minutes.
  4. Now grind rice, urad dal, fenugreek seeds, and poha in a mixer. And prepare a thin batter.
  5. Keep this batter to ferment for 8-10 hours.
  6. Add salt to the fermenting batter and stir thoroughly.
  7. Now finely chop onion, green chillies, and coriander leaves.
  8. In a bowl, mix onion, green chillies, cumin seeds, curry leaves, and coriander leaves.
  9. Heat a nonstick skillet and coat it with oil.
  10. Let the pan heat up on medium flame.
  11. Now distribute the batter in a circular pattern on the pan using a ladle.
  12. Spread onion topping evenly on top of it and pour a little oil or ghee on the edges.
  13. Now cover and cook for 2-3 minutes.
  14. When the bottom side becomes golden, flip the uttapam.
  15. Cook the other side for 1-2 minutes as well.
  16. Take out the hot onion uttapam on a serving plate.
