Ingredients: Made in India Sambar Recipe
- 1 cup tur dal
- 1 tomato, chopped
- 1 onion, chopped
- 1/2 cup bottle gourd (ghiya), chopped
- 1/2 cup beans, chopped
- 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder
- 1 teaspoon red chili powder
- 1 teaspoon coriander powder
- 1/2 teaspoon fenugreek seeds
- 1/2 teaspoon mustard seeds
- 1 pinch asafoetida
- 2 green chilies, finely chopped
- 1 piece of ginger, finely chopped
- 2 teaspoons sambhar powder
- Salt to taste
- 2 teaspoons oil
- Coriander leaves, chopped (for garnishing)
- 1 teaspoon mustard seeds
- 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
- 8-10 curry leaves
- 2 dried red chillies
Method:
- First, wash the tur dal thoroughly and put it in a pressure cooker and add turmeric powder, salt, 1 cup of water, and chopped vegetables (gourd, carrot, beans).
- Cook the dal in a pressure cooker till 4-5 whistles.
- Now, heat oil in a pan and add mustard seeds, fenugreek seeds, cumin seeds, and asafoetida.
- When the spices start crackling, add onion, ginger, and green chillies and fry.
- After this, add tomatoes and cook till soft.
- Now add coriander powder, red chili powder, and sambar powder and mix well.
- Put the lentils and vegetables cooked in a pressure cooker into this spice mixture and add water as required to make it thick or thin.
- Boil it for 10-12 minutes.
- Now, heat ghee in a small pan and fry mustard seeds, cumin seeds, curry leaves, and dried red chilies.
- Add this tempering to the prepared sambar and let it boil lightly.
- After this, turn off the gas and garnish with green coriander and serve with idlis or dosa.
