Ingredients: Made in India Sambar Recipe

  1. 1 cup tur dal
  2. 1 tomato, chopped
  3. 1 onion, chopped
  4. 1/2 cup bottle gourd (ghiya), chopped
  5. 1/2 cup beans, chopped
  6. 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder
  7. 1 teaspoon red chili powder
  8. 1 teaspoon coriander powder
  9. 1/2 teaspoon fenugreek seeds
  10. 1/2 teaspoon mustard seeds
  11. 1 pinch asafoetida
  12. 2 green chilies, finely chopped
  13. 1 piece of ginger, finely chopped
  14. 2 teaspoons sambhar powder
  15. Salt to taste
  16. 2 teaspoons oil
  17. Coriander leaves, chopped (for garnishing)
  18. 1 teaspoon mustard seeds
  19. 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
  20. 8-10 curry leaves
  21. 2 dried red chillies

Method:

  1. First, wash the tur dal thoroughly and put it in a pressure cooker and add turmeric powder, salt, 1 cup of water, and chopped vegetables (gourd, carrot, beans).
  2. Cook the dal in a pressure cooker till 4-5 whistles.
  3. Now, heat oil in a pan and add mustard seeds, fenugreek seeds, cumin seeds, and asafoetida.
  4. When the spices start crackling, add onion, ginger, and green chillies and fry.
  5. After this, add tomatoes and cook till soft.
  6. Now add coriander powder, red chili powder, and sambar powder and mix well.
  7. Put the lentils and vegetables cooked in a pressure cooker into this spice mixture and add water as required to make it thick or thin.
  8. Boil it for 10-12 minutes.
  9. Now, heat ghee in a small pan and fry mustard seeds, cumin seeds, curry leaves, and dried red chilies.
  10. Add this tempering to the prepared sambar and let it boil lightly.
  11. After this, turn off the gas and garnish with green coriander and serve with idlis or dosa.
