Carrot Raita Recipe: Ingredients
- 2 medium sized carrots
- 1 cup plain yogurt
- 1/2 teaspoon roasted cumin powder
- 1/4 or to taste teaspoon red chili powder
- 1/4 or to taste teaspoon black salt
- Plain salt to taste
- Fresh coriander leaves, chopped (for garnish)
- A pinch of chaat masala (optional)
Carrot Raita Recipe: Method of preparation
- First wash and peel the carrots and grate them.
- You can also lightly roast the grated carrots in a pan for 2-3 minutes to remove the raw taste.
- Let them cool before adding them to the curd. This step is completely optional.
- Now whisk the curd in a bowl until smooth and creamy.
- If the curd is too thick, you can add some cold water or milk to it to dilute it.
- After this, add the grated carrots to the whisked curd.
- Add roasted cumin powder, red chili powder, black salt, and plain salt.
- Add chaat masala, if using, and mix everything well.
- Finally garnish with chopped fresh coriander leaves.
- Before serving, chill the raita in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes and then serve.
Additional Tips
- You can add a pinch of sugar to sweeten the raita.
- You can also add other vegetables like cucumber or grated beetroot to the raita.
- For a spicier raita, add finely chopped green chillies.
- You can also add tadka to the raita. For this, heat one teaspoon of oil or ghee in a small pan.
- Then add mustard seeds, cumin seeds and a pinch of asafoetida. When the seeds crackle, pour the tadka over the raita.
- Always use fresh curd for a better taste.
