Ingredients: Spicy Garlic-Tomato Chutney:

  1. 4-5 ripe tomatoes
  2. 8-10 garlic cloves
  3. 2-3 dried red chillies
  4. 1 tsp mustard
  5. 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
  6. 1/2 tsp cumin seeds
  7. 1 pinch asafoetida
  8. 1 tsp oil
  9. Salt to taste
  10. A little jaggery or sugar
  11. Fresh coriander leaves

Method:

  1. First of all, wash the tomatoes and chop them finely, and also peel the garlic cloves and grind or chop them finely.
  2. Now heat oil in a wok or pan.
  3. When the oil is hot, add mustard seeds and cumin seeds. When they start crackling, add a pinch of asafoetida.
  4. Now add dried red chilies and garlic and fry lightly. Make sure that the garlic does not burn.
  5. After this, add chopped tomatoes to the tempering and mix well.
  6. Now add turmeric powder and salt, and let the tomatoes cook on medium flame.
  7. Keep stirring it till the tomatoes melt completely.
  8. When the tomatoes are completely cooked and thickened, turn off the gas.
  9. Let the mixture cool down, then grind it in a mixer.
  10. If you want a little sweet taste, you can add some jaggery or sugar while grinding.
  11. Now take out the chutney in a bowl and garnish it with fresh coriander leaves.
  12. Your tomato-garlic chutney is ready! Serve it hot with dosa, idli, or paratha.
