Afghani Paneer Recipe: Ingredients

  1. 250 grams paneer (chopped pieces)
  2. 2 large tomatoes (finely pureed)
  3. 1 large onion (finely chopped)
  4. 4-5 garlic cloves (crushed)
  5. 1 inch ginger piece (crushed)
  6. 1/2 cup fresh cream
  7. 2 tablespoons cashew paste
  8. 1 tablespoon almond paste
  9. 1/2 teaspoon cumin powder
  10. 1/2 teaspoon coriander powder
  11. 1/4 teaspoon turmeric powder
  12. 1/2 teaspoon garam masala
  13. 2 tablespoons oil or butter
  14. Salt to taste
  15. Green coriander (for garnishing)

Method:

  1. To make Afghani paneer, first lightly salt the paneer pieces and keep aside for 10-15 minutes.
  2. After this, heat some oil in a pan and fry the paneer pieces till they become light golden.
  3. Take out the fried paneer on a plate and keep it aside.
  4. Heat oil or butter in a pan. Add finely chopped onion to it and fry it till it becomes golden.
  5. Now add crushed garlic and ginger and fry for 1-2 minutes.
  6. Now add cumin powder, coriander powder, turmeric powder, and garam masala and mix well.
  7. After this add tomato puree and cook it till the oil separates.
  8. Now add cashew and almond paste and mix well.
  9. This will increase the richness of the gravy.
  10. Add fresh cream to the gravy and mix it well.
  11. Now add fried paneer pieces and cook till it boils lightly.
  12. Keep in mind that the paneer pieces do not break too much.
  13. Finally, chop green coriander finely and add it on top.
  14. Afghani paneer is ready. Serve it with hot naan or roti.
