It is a dish resembling a pancake, which is made from rice and urad dal batter. Many types of vegetables can also be added to it, which makes it even more delicious. Uttapam is served with coconut chutney or sambhar.

Ingredients: Uttapam Recipe

  1. Urad dal – 1 cup
  2. Rice – 1 cup
  3. Curd – 1 cup
    Salt – according to taste
  4. Water – as required
  5. Oil – for frying
  6. Vegetables (of your choice) – onion, tomato, green chili, carrot, etc.

Method:

  1. Soak urad dal and rice in separate vessels for at least 4-5 hours.
  2. Grind the soaked dal and rice separately.
  3. Then mix both and make a smooth batter.
  4. Add curd, salt, and a little water and mix the batter well.
  5. The batter should have the consistency of pancake batter.
  6. Chop the vegetables of your choice finely.
  7. Heat a non-stick pan and add a little oil.
  8. Pour a spoonful of batter into the pan and spread it.
  9. Add chopped vegetables on top.
  10. Cook the uttapam on low flame till it turns golden on both sides.
  11. Serve hot uttapam with coconut chutney or sambhar.
